What inspired you to start your work?

As an ardent soap maker my goal was to make a high quality, irresistible soap which would encourage my grand-daughter to wash her hands frequently. This quickly escalated to producing a fun soap for all children to use and enjoy.

What are some of your favourite materials to work with and why?

Soapure is a family business which includes myself, my daughter Amy and my grand-daughter Christina. We have turned our humble garage into our creative work space where we produce our wonderful Soapure products. Parts of the manufacturing process allows us to sit together and work together both as a business and a family. This experience is one that I value greatly as I appreciate the bonds that it creates and strengthens through our shared work and goals.

What do you love most about your handmade business?

Being a small business enables me to be personally involved in all aspects of the business, and allows me to ensure that my standards of quality tested products and helpful customer service is not compromised. I can use my passion for making beautiful fun soaps and my enjoyment of working directly with customers, to ensure that buyers are thoroughly satisfied with both the products and the service they receive.

What are you most looking forward to about being at the Auckland Fair?

I am truly excited to be part of this years Auckland Fair, where we will be amongst many amazing talented artists and artisans. I am thankful and excited to be able to participate in this wonderful event, and the opportunity to show our products in such a creative environment. I hope to enjoy the fun reactions of both adults and children when they see and learn about our unique soaps, and I will enjoy the opportunity to tell people about our story, the beautiful properties of our soap and the wonderful treasures that are found inside.

What would be some advice you would offer to anyone wanting to start their own handmade business?

Our biggest triumph was launching our brand at the Autumn Gift Fair which is an annual trade show held in March. We had an amazing response and currently have our brand in 17 stores across New Zealand. Our Soapure products are a totally new concept to the marketplace and so we are thankful, and have been humbled by the large amount of positive feedback and overwhelming encouragement that we have received so far.
