What inspired you to start your work?
Four years ago I decided to turn one of my crystals into a pendant. I was hooked! I made so many that I started to sell them at markets. Then someone asked me to make them a healing wand, and again I was hooked!
Describe your creative space, where you bring to life your work?
My work space literally takes up half my small flat! I live in the most beautiful space with lots of trees around me. I have two large desks as I like an area to lay everything out and sort what I am going to make. I like to have my workspace and tools very organised. My work is very organic; I have a vague plan when I start making something. I never sketch it, I see a picture of it in my head and I try to create it in real life.
What do you love most about your handmade business?
I really enjoy the challenge of running my own business. I can work my own hours and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle. I love when it is cold and wet outside, and I am warm and snuggly inside, sitting at my desk with my feet up watching telly creating pendants and wands. I have always been creative so to earn a living from it is a dream come true. It has really changed my life.
What are you most looking forward to about being at the Auckland Fair?
This is my first fair so I am very excited to showcase my products! I am especially excited about my crystal and copper healing wands. I have designed them for fancy dress or for healing. Some of the wands I make are taller than me! I love finding the right pendant or wand for a customer and watching as one of my pieces really grabs them and they can’t walk away without it! It is the best part of my job!
What has been your biggest triumph to date?
Having customers come back and tell me how much the pendant or wand they brought from me has really helped them. It is the most rewarding part of my job.
