What inspired you to start your work?
3 summers ago I was at university and my holiday job fell through, not one to sit around and do nothing I got crafting. After making everything I could with mum’s craft cupboard supplies I decided to order some candle supplies. And the rest they say is history!
Describe your creative space, where you bring to life your work?
I bring to life my work in my favourite space, my little apartment in the centre of Auckland city. Much to my partner and sister’s frustration I tend to take over the place with pots boiling on the stove, candles curing on the dining table and stickers all over the living room floor… But really I’m always bringing my business to life – I’m constantly writing notes, taking photos and writing down new ideas.
What do you love most about your handmade business?
I love being so passionate about something that is 100% mine. I had just turned 20 when I started my business so I am very proud of everything I have done so far whilst graduating and finding myself in the working world.
What are you most looking forward to about being at the Auckland Fair?
I love attending the Auckland Fair and meeting customers, return or new! It’s such fun mingling with people who are learning about your brand and loving your products. It’s fun talking to people about fragrances as smell is the sense most linked to your memory. I’ll also have some new products to showcase!
What has been your biggest triumph to date?
I still get excited when I receive orders from complete strangers – especially if they tell me they’ve heard about me or were told to order from me, that’s exciting! But my biggest triumph would have to be when people order my candles for their weddings. Weddings are such as special day and as a true romantic I love knowing that something I make is a part of your special day!
