What inspired you to start your work?
I have always loved textiles, colour and pattern. After completing an Interior Design Degree I naturally drifted towards textile design leading me to complete an online course about the making and application of surface design. During this time I started thinking of ways to turn my interest into more than just a hobby. So for a little over 2 years I have been printing my patterns onto natural fibre fabrics using both digital and hand printing methods. I make the fabrics into a variety of home wares and accessories enjoying the fact someone will own a unique product made by me!
Describe your creative space, where you bring to life your work?
I work from home using the basement for my screen printing activities. I have slowly been taking over another 2 rooms in the house as family leave home!
What do you love most about your handmade business?
I really enjoy the process of designing a pattern and taking it through to the final completed product. I love creating pieces that are not only unique but useful and will be enjoyed by someone who appreciates handmade NZ designed products.
What are you most looking forward to about being at the Auckland Fair?
This is my first fair so looking forward to the whole new experience ! Especially talking to customers and the opportunity to meet other small business operators from different parts of NZ.
What has been your biggest triumph to date?
Joining up with GUILD a local group of Dunedin designers who co operatively run a store selling their products. This has given me great public exposure and the opportunity to met like-minded folk with lots of tips and advice for running a small business.
