What inspired you to start your work?
I was simply fed up with buying underwear only to have them give out after a few weeks or months. And did they really have to ride up like that all the time?
I had always been able to sew and knew I could do a better job.
Describe your creative space, where you bring to life your work?
My workshop is my happy place, especially the sewing machine. i have a large cutting table where I have plenty of room to spread my fabric out and visualise how I am going to use it.
It has a patio where I sit outside with my coffee and contemplate life’s great questions; what did people do before clothes pegs? what is the Oxford comma?
What do you love most about your handmade business?
Making something people love! Getting it right and being able to make a modest living from it.
What are you most looking forward to about being at the Auckland Fair?
Meeting new customers – we rarely travel to Auckland. Also, being around other creative types with similar mindsets.
What has been your biggest triumph to date?
Being able to quit my ‘proper’ job as a civil engineer to make Fanny Adams Underwear full time.
